Getting My Mind To Work by ciomaria Getting My Mind To Work by ciomaria
Title: Getting My Mind To Work
Tools: Paper, foam-core board, string, glue, lots of xacto-knives

This is not the best picture, but the best I could do at work during lunchtime ^_^. I just finished the piece but it still needs to be framed. I will post a new pic as soon as I have one.

The sense of depth is incredible, given that it's all the same color...

Cool idea

Another excellent work! I love the idea of it, not to mention the medium in which it was done. The detail is amazing. I can just imagine the effort you put to this. Congratulations!

Excellent concept and flawless execution, this piece is simply stunning.

First, I am a huge fan of all white pieces. I'm not against color pieces, but the all white pieces have a different sensibility to them that I love. The play of light and shadow like this can only be captured in these pieces.

The concept woks so well in this medium, due largely to your precision cutting. The gears are amazing, you could have gone with simple gears, but you put so much character in each tiny element they are like individual thoughts or knowledge of your mind at work.

I also love the details you put in the larger image of the head: the nostril the jaw line the hairs and the absence of a hair tie all work well together.

Although I can't see much detail in the smaller figure, I know it is there. I love her position and function in the piece.

Lastly, my favorite part of this piece is how you used cut lines to your advantage and avoided unnecessary lines in the piece. I love how the shoulders and chest are layered as well as the hairline at the nape of the neck and where the jaw meets the neck. This is truly an exceptional piece of paper sculpture.

I hardly know where to start...thank you so much for all of your lovely comments.

I originally was going to go with simple gears on a more elaborately done and detailed head, but then thought that it really would not be true to my nature. I like very simple things when it comes to myself, and I try to put most of my attention into my projects and work. So I finally decided that it would be more fitting to make more complicated thoughts on a simple person. I think I am much happier this way than I would have been with it the other way.

I am a big fan of all white pieces too. The only problem that I have found is that if they are not lit properly, all the details tend to dissapear (especially when photographing them). But I also have not experimented very much with color. I will have to get over my fear of color and work on some pieces that are a little more vibrant, just to experiment. ^_^

And the gears were so much fun to make on this piece that I think I may try to do something using gears again...
